Euro Under Pressure
The Euro's response to last week's hawkish comments from the European Central Bank (ECB) has been relatively muted, as the single currency has not experienced significant downward movement.
Euro Indication
Despite Christine Lagarde's clear indication that the ECB has no plans to pause rate hikes following the recent 25 basis point increase, the Euro has failed to capitalise on this news.
Adding to the hawkish sentiment, Klass Knott, within the ECB, suggested that further rate hikes will be necessary, even though the combined rate adjustments made thus far are already starting to have an impact.
Currently the rate sits around the 1.1000 level against the US dollar, the EUR/USD pair is lacking the momentum to push it higher. While the ECB's hawkish stance should theoretically support the Euro, the currency has struggled to gain momentum. The absence of clear catalysts to drive the currency's appreciation suggests that market participants are awaiting additional developments or triggers that could influence the Euro's performance.
